Take action!

Preliminary findings from our public survey at ReimagineCBC.ca make it clear: community media is one of the top priorities for Canadians. Yet the CRTC still plans to cut $40 million in special funds to the CBC for local programming by August 31st 2014.1

These funds are generated by a small percentage of revenue set aside from Big Telecom; they support local Canadian media production that cannot survive without it—yet Big Telecom has lobbied hard to have these funds terminated.

We’re not going to take this lying down, since at OpenMedia.ca, we’re used to standing up to Big Telecom.

Help us send a strong message to the CRTC when we submit our findings this September—let them know that community media matters to you by ranking it a priority in our public survey.

Over 1300 interested parties filed submissions about the local programming funds—largely in favour of maintaining the program—yet the CRTC only used evidence from Big Telecom to support their decision.2

With Big Telecom lobbyists aggressively attacking the CBC, it’s more important than ever that Canadians send a clear, strong message to decision-makers about our priorities for public media in a digital age.

Over 3,000 Canadians have taken the public survey, created from the ideas that you submitted to our Ideas Forum. Many have ranked “community-driven” as a top value. But we need to show a much broader and deeper base of support for the CBC in our communities. Taking the public survey gives you a special link that you can share with your friends and family, so you can be a crucial part of supporting, revitalizing, and reimagining the CBC.

We must come together more forcefully and amplify our voices if we want to reclaim public media in this country. Soon, we’ll take our findings directly to decision-makers at the CBC & CRTC, so join with others at ReimagineCBC.ca now and make your voice heard.

For our shared future,

Diana, Reilly, and your ReimagineCBC.ca community
