Panel Discussion Addresses Current Crisis in Canadian Media

“Where’s the Money in Media?” is an interactive panel discussion on proposed corporate media bailouts, cuts to the CBC, and exciting alternative models for media, hosted by Campaign for Democratic Media. Come out to meet the experts and hear what they have to say about the future of media in Canada. The panel will be held this coming Wednesday, May 27th, from 6:45-9pm at VIVO Media Arts Centre, 1965 Main Street (near the Main St. Skytrain Station).

“As the crisis in journalism continues, while the government considers providing bailout money to the same big media giants that contributed to this crisis in the first place, now is the perfect time to have a discussion about the future of Canadian media and how it is resourced”. –Naava Smolash, Professor of Media Studies, Vancouver Island University.

Panelists will include Charlie Smith, Editor of the Georgia Straight, Marika Swan, Interim Manager of Redwire Native Youth Media, and Colin Preston, Library Coordinator & Canadian Media Guild Secretary, CBC Vancouver, and other special guests.

Seating is limited, register online, by email or phone to save your space.
Suggested Donation $7 in advance, $12 at the door. No one turned away for lack of funds. Snacks will be served, bus tickets available. Free childcare available onsite with advance request.
