Keep Canada Connected: Stop Severe Cuts to the CBC

Just as a community is coming together around new opportunities for the CBC, the federal government has tabled a proposed budget that contains severe cuts to the CBC. The dramatic cut of $115 million damages Canadian content and international coverage, and undermines our news, our culture, and our digital economy.

Here is what’s already on the chopping block:

  • CBC radio’s Dispatches
  • News bureaus in Latin American and Africa
  • Afghanada and all radio dramas
  • CBC News Network’s Connect with Mark Kelley
  • CBC-TV’s Battle of the Blades
  • The Halifax home of 22 Minutes, Canada’s only TV production studio east of Montreal
  • Radio-Canada International’s radio programming, silencing Canada’s voice around the world
  • Canadian documentaries

We have to let the government know that these severe cuts are unacceptable. They will destroy the opportunity for the CBC to connect all Canadians with new ideas and services that can stop us from falling behind in a new era of news and culture.

The cuts are scheduled to get worse and worse over the next three years. It’s time we added our voices at this crucial moment to make sure they know that there will be a political cost for damaging our news, our culture and our digital future. Please send a message and share this petition before the imminent budget vote. This is urgent—your support for the CBC is needed now
