Spectrum policy in Canada: Levelling the playing field for affordable rates and breadth of choice
Canadians have been sending this report to their MPs using the following message:
I'm a local constituent writing to tell you about OpenMedia.ca's report, "Spectrum policy in Canada: Levelling the playing field for affordable rates and breadth of choice". The report discusses the best ways to improve competition and choice in Canada's struggling cell phone market, highlighting the need for wireless spectrum set-asides. Find it here: http://openmedia.ca/CellphonePlan
Wireless spectrum is increasingly crucial infrastructure for cell phones, which more and more Canadians are using to communicate and access the Internet.
Currently, The Big Three cell phone companies—Bell, Rogers, and Telus—control upwards of 94% of the market, and Canadians already pay some of the highest cell phone fees in the industrialized world. Unless direct action is taken, things could get much worse.
Please use our report's strategy recommendations to create a plan that will restructure the telecommunications industry, and ensure that mobile communications are open and affordable for all Canadians.
