Unique Opportunity with OpenMedia.ca: Internship program

OpenMedia.ca’s internship program introduces aspiring media and digital enthusiasts to the non-profit sector. Internships train candidates in learning the behind-the-scenes work that goes into effectively running an award-winning organization with one of the largest, most engaged support bases in the country.

The OpenMedia.ca internship program runs year-long and hiring takes place in January, May, and September. Interns usually work for a term of 3 months (PT and FT, depending on the position) from our office in Vancouver. The internship program is competitive and intended for candidates who are just beginning their careers.

Volunteering

OpenMedia.ca’s volunteer program introduces aspiring media and digital enthusiasts to the non-profit sector. Volunteer positions train candidates in translating the behind-the-scenes work that goes into effectively running an award-winning organization into ground-level action.

OpenMedia.ca Street Team Leader

OpenMedia.ca is seeking passionate, dedicated, and reliable applicants for the position of Team Leader of the new West Vancouver, North Vancouver, and Coquitlam OpenMedia.ca Street Teams (OSTs). This position is unpaid and requires approximately 5-10 hours/week commitment. The OpenMedia.ca Street Team program will aim to raise awareness about digital policy issues affecting Canadians and spread information related to Internet openness and open media practices through ground level events and initiatives.

Position Description

With the help and guidance of the OpenMedia.ca Outreach Coordinators, Team Leaders will be responsible for organizing and managing a team of individuals working towards brainstorming ideas, running community events, and completing overarching action items. Team Leaders will also be responsible for communicating directly with OpenMedia.ca staff and collecting/relaying feedback and data from team initiatives. Responsibilities will include:

  • Organizing monthly Street Team meetings
  • Setting achievable goals for and delegating tasks to their Street Team
  • Developing relationships with local decision-makers and monitoring their activities related to OpenMedia.ca
  • Reporting back regularly to OpenMedia.ca staff regarding Street Team progress

Requirements:

  • Community involvement or experience working with community groups
  • Avid user of social media tools including Facebook, Google +, YouTube, and Twitter
  • Superior communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience with data collection/management
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office
  • Familiarity with Google platforms

Assets:

  • Graphic design & video editing/production skills
  • Basic HTML skills
  • Proficiency in oral or written French
  • Flexible schedule

OpenMedia.ca Street Team Member

Responsibilities will include:

  • Attending monthly Street Team meetings
  • Brainstorming and helping to organize local events
  • Promoting OpenMedia.ca and Street Team materials via social media
  • Engaging and informing local communities and personal networks about Openmedia.ca events/initiatives (including local policymakers)

Requirements:

  • Superior communication and interpersonal skills
  • Can-do attitude
  • Avid user of social media tools including Facebook, Google +, YouTube, and Twitter
