Communications Manager
Works directly with:
Executive Director/National Coordinator
Managing Director
24 hrs (or 3 days) / week
Overall responsibility:
Assist in organizational administration and support the National Coordinator in day-to-day maintenance of the organization. Take lead on website, social media, and newsletter communication activities.
Duties:
Setting up new interns and staff members with email addresses, access to Google Groups and access to wikis.
Overseeing publishing of OpenMedia.ca blogs, including assignment of stories, writing blog posts (1-3 related issues / day)
Overseeing publishing of OpenMedia.ca newsletters and email blasts
Maintain email lists, including welcoming any new subscribers
Website maintenance
Maintain donor database
Maintain social media presence, including twitter accounts (multiple) and Facebook accounts (multiple)
Assist in promotions of campaigns, events, and projects
Assist staff as necessary to help meet the mission of the organization
Qualifications:
Strong interest in communications, internet neutrality issues, media innovation and media democratization.
Experience managing a website, familiarity with Drupal a bonus
Social media savvy (twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Flickr, etc)
Experience blogging and writing
Familiarity with Wikis
Some design experience
Ability to learn on your feet and work in a team
Previous experience as an online activist a bonus
