Consumer complaints regarding internet throttling reached an all-time high in Canada last year, a new report reveals.
The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission this week released their annual status report on Complaints Related to Internet Traffic Management Practices. There were 75 complaints received in 2012. This is compared to just 67 across a two-year period from 2009 to 2011.
Guilty telecommunications companies like Rogers—who was in 2011 labelled the world's worst internet throttler—and Bell pledged to stop throttling last year. However, it seems that some still engage in the practice, though more subtly than before.
"It will be especially interesting to see what the CRTC’s report on complaints in 2013 will say," Vancouver-based OpenMedia remarked, noting that both Rogers and Bell promised to cease all throttling as of this year. Read more »
