Citizens Flocking to the Internet to get News
The BBC published an article regarding the Pew Research Center's report called Understanding the Participatory News Consumer. The BBC article states, "newspapers in the US and UK have been going through financial difficulties, leading many to examine charging for their news online." As many Canadians know, Canada is also facing this dilemma.
Apparently, "61% of readers surveyed said they got their news online on a typical day [and] more than 90% use more than one method to get news."
Since more readers have been using news websites as informative sources rather than the physical print, the number of regular newspaper readers has dropped to 50% according to this survey by the Pew Research Center.
Many news sources are now considering charging their online readers. One of these new sources is The New York Times, which is planning on initiating online reading fees in 2011.
